Travel Day

It's 11:30pm California time and we are in Amsterdam. The local time here is 8:30 Sunday morning. We have another 3 hours before boarding our final leg to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We've been up for 21 hours with little sleep on the flight over. We are trying to stay awake as it will be midnight Sunday when we arrive and want to be tired so we can get a good rest for our drive Monday morning to Morogoro. Here is a sample of what we are having for breakfast,the local delicacies at the Amsterdam airport store. Yes, that's smoked mackerel and eel!

Building Project / Job Site

This trip will be to Morogoro, which is west of Dar es Salaam about 120 miles.  Unlike previous years, we will be constructing an entirely different building.  We will be assembling 8 steel framed "tabernacles".  They are metal framed structures with metal roofs. No walls or floors, just footings.  We'll assemble these to form 4 buildings: a dormitory, kitchen/dining room, classrooms, & principal's home.  They are being shipped from the states.
  
In the past we've built a church or dorm using 60 lb. solid cement block.  I can't speak for everyone but I believe we are all thankful for not having to deal with block this year.  I am sure our backs are thankful too!  I've attached a couple photos showing the structure.

Journey to Tanzania

We will be meeting the rest of our Team around 5am at Sac International airport on Saturday March 5th.  We will be boarding a flight to Minneapolis at 6:45am.  From Minneapolis we will board a red-eye flight at 3:30pm central time to Amsterdam.  We are scheduled to arrive in Amsterdam at 6:40am Sunday (24 hours after we left Sacramento and we are only half way there!).  After roughly a 4 hour lay over in Amsterdam we board our final flight of the outgoing trip.  This KLM flight will leave Amsterdam around 11am Sunday and arrive in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania at 11:35pm Sunday.  Tanzania is 11 hours ahead of California so the time in Sacramento will be 12:30 Sunday afternoon.
